Nokia E61 and Nokia E61i
The E61 and E61i are Nokia's approach to the qwerty-keypad equipped email oriented segment of the smartphone segment. The E61i supersedes the E61 and in a slimmer form factor offers a slightly better set of features including a 2 megapixel camera. The E61 and E61i have been superseded by the Nokia E71.
Nokia E61
The Nokia E61 and its successor the E61i look like Blackberry phones at first glance, but beat the Blackberry specifications by a country mile.
Shipping since the end of April 2006 the E61 features the following connectivity capabilities:
- GSM on 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz with GPRS and EGPRS (EDGE) data capabilities, Nokia's first global phone?
- WCDMA on 2100 MHz
- Wireless Lan (802.11 i/e/g)
- Mini SD memory card
- Bluetooth and Infrared - old school but damn handy (if only as a TV remote)
The phone also gets a high resolution (320 x 240 pixel) screen (the lowest resolution of the initial 3 Eseries phones). Symbian OS 9.1, with S60 3rd edition. An odd omission is the camera, some businesses get anal about cameras on phones, but I've seen them used usefully in many business situations, here's a typical usage and there are many others. The E61's Qwerty thumbpad seems far more usable than the lousy Motorola Q keyboard, and the horrible Blackberry Pearl keypad.

Nokia E61i
Announced at at 3GSM 12 Feb 2007 (along with the Nokia E65, E90, N77, and 6110) the E61i is a facelifted version of the classic E61.
The specifications for the E61i are basically similar to those of the E61 plus a 2 megapixel camera. The E61's pop-port is retained, unlike the E62's mini-usb and 3.5mm headphone socket. The joystick and the key layout around it are different to the original E61. The E61i has gained dedicated Contacts and My Own keys (rather like the E65's additional voice call keys). The My Own key can be customized to launch any application or web bookmark that is available on the device. The E61i has been available since April 2007.
